Introduction to Indefinitpronomen
Indefinitpronomen are indefinite pronouns that refer to non-specific people or things. In German, some common indefinite pronouns are man, jemand, niemand, alles, and etwas.
1. "Man"
The pronoun man is used to refer to people in general (similar to "one" or "you" in English). It does not refer to a specific person and is always used in the third person singular form.
- Man kann hier gut essen. (One can eat well here.)
- Man sollte viel Wasser trinken. (One should drink a lot of water.)
- Man muss die Regeln beachten. (One must follow the rules.)
2. "Jemand"
The pronoun jemand means "someone" or "somebody" and is used when referring to an unspecified person.
- Jemand hat an der Tür geklopft. (Someone knocked on the door.)
- Jemand ruft dich an. (Someone is calling you.)
- Jemand hat das Buch vergessen. (Someone forgot the book.)
3. "Niemand"
The pronoun niemand means "no one" or "nobody" and is used to indicate the absence of people.
- Niemand ist zu Hause. (No one is at home.)
- Niemand hat die Antwort gewusst. (No one knew the answer.)
- Niemand möchte das machen. (No one wants to do that.)
4. "Alles"
The pronoun alles means "everything" and refers to all things collectively.
- Alles ist bereit. (Everything is ready.)
- Er hat alles vergessen. (He forgot everything.)
- Alles ist möglich. (Everything is possible.)
5. "Etwas"
The pronoun etwas means "something" and refers to an unspecified thing.
- Ich brauche etwas zu trinken. (I need something to drink.)
- Er hat etwas im Auto gelassen. (He left something in the car.)
- Etwas ist hier falsch. (Something is wrong here.)
